"Five Miles To Castletown" by Bryan Varnam is the fourth in a series of paintings called "The Quiet Man Fan". Bryan did the series out of his profound love for the John Ford movie "The Quiet Man", starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. The film was shot almost entirely on location in and around the village of Cong, County Mayo, Ireland. The painting shows a newlywed Irish couple riding in a jaunting car on their first shopping trip together. The footbridge to the left appears as the subject matter in another of Bryan's paintings called "Sean's Footbridge". It is included in this painting to show where it exists in relation to the cottage. Sadly, the cottage "White O'Morn'" was neglected and is now a pile of rubble.
