"Courting" by Bryan Varnam is the fifth in a series called "The Quiet Man Fan". Bryan did the series out of his profound love for the John Ford film "The Quiet Man", starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. This painting shows a young Irish couple on a first date. Traditionally, a young couple could date only after the bands had been read and only under the watchful eye of the matchmaker. On the first date the couple went out on a ride in the matcmaker's trap and propriety demanded that they sit with backs facing each other and were allowed only to talk. As the courting progressed, the couple were allowed more liberty and closer interaction until they could go walking out together in public, but still under the watchful eye of the matchmaker.
"Courting" with an image size of 9" x 18" has been released as an open edition, signed giclee print and is available at Collector's Corner.
